Miyakojima city, with its attractive ocean blue distinguished among all the Okinawa islands, is the city of sight seeing visited by 400 thousands people per year, while the city population is 50 thousands. Nowadays, as the issues of the city are the increasing consumption in the city and the dependence of the resource on out of the city, the city declared “Eco-island Miyakojima Declaration” in 2008 toward the island which will provide us the forever residence. The city will establish the island type low-carbon society system, through the initiatives on locally produced energy and resource, utilizing the mercy of nature, including the widespread sugarcane field, sunlight and the wind.
