Obihiro city, located in the vast Tokachi Central plain, surrounded by Daisetsu Mountains and Hidaka Mountains, has been taking various actions including forestation of “Obihiro Forest”, appropriate disposal of agricultural waste and the promotion o extensive use of biomass resources, aiming at region development symbiosis with nature. Making the most use of mercy of nature of the longest daylight hours in Japan, promoting further the cooperation among businesses, academic sectors and the public administrations, the city will realize “the rural environment model city.”
