Toyama city, whose inner city has the lowest density among prefectural capitals in the country, have run the initiatives toward the city structure with dense concentration of city function along the transportation axis ahead of the other cities, having faced with the problem of its heavy dependence on auto mobiles; it includes the formation of the LRT network, re-location to the downtown or the area along transportation route. This initiative will be accelerated through the activities by the citizens’ group named “Team Toyama-city,” led by the Mayor, and realize the most compact and smart city in the world.
