Having once a victim of devastating pollution, Minamata city declared “The Declaration toward Environmental Model City” in 1992 in order to make the most of lessons from the serious experience. The city began new recycling system including rare-metal in addition to the 22 types separation of garbage toward zero-waste community. Directing eyes on the nature and the daily life, the city will realize the environmental protection deep-rooted in the local climate and culture, and create the low-carbon city in which the power of residents and the businesses are made use of for the simultaneous development of the environment and the local economy.
